About Us

Yoga Agora is an open studio for all those seeking to practice their yoga in a simple, non-competitive atmosphere as frequently and freely as their body and mind allow. We strive to make yoga accessible and affordable. Come as often as you wish and stay as long as you like. No memberships or pre-registration needed.

This is a space meant for the community. In ancient Greece, the Agora was a gathering place for both politics and trade. Our studio emphasizes a similar gathering, in the sense of shared experiences and the exchange of ideas. Community has much to add to our quality of life and we believe that an accessible yoga studio can bring such added joy to any neighborhood.

“Life for it’s own sake is hollow. People who live in a society, enjoy looking into each other’s eyes, who share their troubles, who focus their efforts on what is important to them and find this joyful – these people lead a full life.” - Albert Einstein, in a letter to his autistic son, Dec. 23, 1927

Our Teaching and Philosophy

You will not become a complete person by practicing yoga. Yoga can guide you to the realization that you are already complete, and that even the most troubling of situations offer boundless opportunity. Your willingness to walk through the door and challenge your body and mind is already proof of your innate strength.

“It seems to me that a fit body doesn’t by its own virtue make the soul good, but instead that the opposite is true – a good soul by its own virtue makes the body as good as possible.” - Socrates to Glaucon, Plato’s Republic, 403d

Yoga is for everyone. Your body and mind are perfectly fit to begin or deepen your practice at any time. At the studio, you will be provided with opportunity and an open space but you must provide your own effort. While each teacher will bring his or her individual experiences and philosophies to class, every practitioner will have the freedom to guide themselves through choices and modifications. We encourage you to use your yoga in any way you deem fit, as it gives us the opportunity to discover ourselves in new ways.

Yoga is breath exercise. While every practice is different, the common thread is always breath. When a moment-to-moment awareness is brought to the breath, we can start to move toward the union of body and mind. If you can breathe, you can do yoga, and the benefits are infinite. Soon enough, the benefits cultivated in the classroom will spread beyond it.

Inspiration has come in part from the teachings of Sam Chase and Bryan Kest. Our teachers have all been certified by the Yoga Alliance.
