Dear students,

Beginning January 9, 2017, we will be making some changes to our class schedule.

Many of our classes will change from open-level to designated levels:

Level 1: Beginners

This class will teach the fundamentals of vinyasa flow. Students will learn yogic breathing, and how to link each breath to basic postures. Level 1 will be taught using a gentle flow with detailed instruction on position and alignment.

Level 2: Beginner/Intermediate

This class will move beyond basic postures into more challenging physical work. Expect to find deeper variations and a faster flow sequence.

Level 3: Intermediate/Advanced

This class is ideal for anyone who feels comfortable in a level 2 class.  Students in level 3 should be proficient in breathing and alignment, with an interest in rigorous movement.

Here is our new schedule effective January 9th, 2017:

Please note that in an effort to control overcrowding at the studio, our donation-based vinyasa classes on Saturday and Sunday will be moved from 2pm to 8am. Our Saturday and Sunday 2pm will be regularly priced at $8.

We will also be offering some new classes:

Pranayama:  All levels

This class is focused on breath and yogic breathing techniques. Along with asana and meditation, pranayama is a key element of yoga practice. Beginners will benefit by learning controlled breathing in asana practice. More experienced yogis will refine their understanding and exploration of the subtle energy body. Do not eat for at least one hour before this class.

Alignment Basics:  All levels

All practitioners are encouraged to attend this class. We will look at the basic architecture of different yoga poses (asanas). Students will explore one asana at a time, and gain a better feel for how each asana fits in the body. This class will not be taught as a flow sequence. Each week of the month will focus on a different category of poses: first week, standing asanas; second week, forward folding asanas; third week, backward bending asanas; fourth week, inversions; fifth week (when applicable), arm balances.

Philosophy / Satsang:  All levels

We will open with a Sanskrit invocation, followed by a short pranayama practice. Then, we will read a selection from a yogic text (such as Yoga Sutra, Upanishads, Hatha Yoga Pradipika). We'll discuss and make connections between the traditional yogic scripture and our contemporary life. Please join our community and make new friends! No yoga clothes required, come as you are.

Inversions Flow: Advanced

We will be offering a weekly flow class that emphasizes inversions practice. This 90-minute practice will fuse an inversion tutorial in each flow sequence. Recommended for advanced practitioners.

Flow and restore: All levels

This class will offer a restorative flow to end the day. This class will not be a traditional restorative class, but rather a vinyasa flow that fuses the passive elements found in restorative and yin positions. This class will be well suited for anyone who needs a relaxing stretch and meditation before bed.
